HALEIWA, Hawaii, USA; BRUSSELS, Belgium; VICTORIA, Seychelles – The International Council of Tourism Partners welcomed its second destination member from Nigeria, the Ekiti State Bureau of Tourism Development.

Tourism development is on the agenda of Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi, as a complete enterprise-oriented focus. This is a landmark achievement in the annals of Ekiti history, as no administration has designed clear-cut action plans aimed at tapping the great tourism potentials of Ekiti State through the development of its tourism endowments and destination products.

The Ekiti Tourism Development Bureau is a government agency with a private-sector outlook that has responsibility for the development, coordination, and implementation of the state’s tourism. The Tourism Development Bureau’s aim is to make Ekiti State an attractive destination for relaxation and holidays by building a heliport, world-class hotel and accommodation facilities, and developing the tourism corridor consisting of the towns, cities, and tourist attractions of Efon, Okemesi, Ikogosi, Ipole, and Iloro.

“It is vitally important to the Ekiti Tourism Development Bureau to create a sustainable tourism brand with a focus on boosting its revenue, employment generation, and improved standard of living for its people,” said ICTP Chairman Juergen T. Steinmetz, “a mission that ties right into the ICTP’s work for quality green tourism growth.”

The Ekiti Tourism Development Bureau is working to drive tourism through private sector investment, public-private partnership, and stakeholder involvement, such that the State achieves tourism market leadership in sub-Saharan Africa within the next five years. It seeks to re-position Ekiti tourism, thereby turning the State into one big tourist center, making it a preferred destination in the country where Nigerians or residents constantly seek to go.

HALEIWA, Hawaii, USA; BRUSSELS, Belgium; VICTORIA, Seychelles – The International Council of Tourism Partners (ICTP) announced that the Sedona Chamber of Commerce & Tourism Bureau of Arizona, has joined as a destination member from the USA.

The core industry and economic generator in Sedona is tourism. Tourism has dynamic direct and indirect effects on each and every business and person in Sedona. The Sedona Chamber's Tourism Bureau has been the leading marketing organization responsible for generating overnight visitation to enhance the vitality of its economy. Its Visitors Center serves more than 400,000 visitors per year.

Often called "Red Rock Country" Sedona is a four seasons playground for visitors - whether you're into history and archaeology; arts and culture; shopping; outdoor sports; or the spiritual and metaphysical, imagine doing all this in a backdrop of some of the most spectacular scenery in the world.

The collection of Sedona's impressive, natural endowments includes the 1.8 million-acre Coconino National Forest, which surrounds the city and encompasses 7 intriguing wilderness areas. Obviously, the list of Sedona sightseeing and Sedona recreational amenities, including state parks and national monuments, is extensive.

Along with its myriad geological features, many tourists relate Sedona's exceptional charm to the fact that they can conveniently spend a day hiking, horseback riding, touring, or bouncing in a Jeep on trails and dirt roads that crisscross this area, and then enjoy the comfort of deluxe Sedona hotels, country inns, and prestigious resorts at night. Indeed, the paradox and enchantment of Sedona are the luxurious hotels, motels and resorts, bed & breakfast establishments, unique shops, impressive art galleries, performing arts, and fine restaurants all nestled in a rugged canyon surrounded by national forest.

“The Sedona Chamber of Commerce has been the voice of business for the Sedona area for over 50 years,” said Juergen T. Steinmetz, ICTP Chairman, “The chamber encourages businesses to employ green business practices, knowing there is a direct connection between quality green growth and the quality of life. We are pleased to have Sedona join ICTP.”

HALEIWA, Hawaii, USA; BRUSSELS, Belgium; VICTORIA, Seychelles – The International Council of Tourism Partners (ICTP) announced that the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has joined the alliance as a destination member.

The Ghana Tourism Authority was established as the main implemeting body of the Ministry of Tourism, replacing the Ghana Tourist Board. GTA’s mission is to ensure sustainable tourism development through the creation of an enabling environment for the provision of quality tourism facilities and services for the traveling public with a well-qualified, highly-motivated, and dedicated work force, thereby promoting tourism to become the leading sector of the economy.

The Ghana Tourism Authority envisions Ghana becoming the tourism capital of West Africa, especially in culture, heritage, ecotourism, as well as conference tourism in a quality non-mass manner.

Nature is important to Ghana and a conservation program strives to protect this heritage, to enable visitors to enjoy it and to enable Ghanaians to pass it on to future generations. Ghana has a rich natural treasure made up of 16 national parks, resource reserves, and wildlife sanctuaries, which are open throughout the year. From the savannah of the coastal plains, the dense tropical forest, and the grassland of the north, to the life-giving water bodies, which crisscross the country, distinct wildlife abounds in Ghana.

ICTP President Professor Lipman said: "The involvement of the Ghana Tourism Authority confirms the growing strength of the African membership of ICTP and the clear commitment emerging across the continent for the green growth and quality priorities we represent. Ghana is also a rapidly growing aviation hub which is vital to Africa's connectivity progress and its totally interrelated development agenda."

ICTP Chairman Juergen T. Steinmetz said: “Ghana pulsates with life. From the bustle of downtown Accra to the adobe villages of the north, and the ancient Kingdom of Asante, it is a country whose immense cultural diversity both thrills and fascinates visitors, drawing them into a daily rhythm that is uniquely and unmistakenly African. We are sure the energy of Ghana will permeate our membership, and ICTP in turn will be able to bring Ghana’s tourism opportunities to a wider audience.”

HALEIWA, Hawaii, USA; BRUSSELS, Belgium; VICTORIA, Seychelles – The International Council of Tourism Partners (ICTP) announced the World Association of Travel Agencies (WATA) from Switerland has joined the alliance as a partner association.

Christine Fournier, General Secretary of the World Association of Travel Agencies, said they are proud to become a member of the International Council of Tourism Partners. Founded in 1949 in Switzerland, WATA is a nonprofit organization registered in Switzerland.

WATA has positioned itself as a truly respected name in the travel industry and is the leading association grouping of Inbound Travel Agencies in the leisure (tourism) segment of the industry.

WATA is a worldwide organization of selected inbound travel agencies dedicated to the enhancement of the professionalism and profitability of member agents through mutual cooperation and global networking. Its members are committed to the highest standards of business ethics and quality of service to clients. Customers feel more confident in choosing our services as they recognize in the WATA logo a symbol of trust and professionalism for the satisfaction of their clients.

WATA is open to inbound travel agencies offering local services, preferably privately-owned companies, middle size, adhering to the highest professional ethics and enjoying a prominent position in their local community. Priority is given to well-established companies in their destination ensuring that its members will be the best local travel experts, having a complete knowledge of the place, the infrastructure, and excellent relations with local suppliers.

WATA membership is given on an exclusivity basis, per country or region. Presently, WATA has 45 exclusive members in 30 countries and has opened a category of preferred suppliers in additional countries, with concrete plans to extend the network on both membership levels extensively.

Through membership in ICTP, WATA intends to position itself as a responsible association, conscious of the impact of tourism on the environment. One of the criteria for WATA is to accept a new local inbound agent as a member is for this agent to certify that he is working in a way to minimize his environmental footprint in his destination and contributes into sustainable tourism initiatives locally. The WATA members are the first ones who should be active in responsible tourism and caring about their own community, the preservation of their own environment and the enhancement of their culture.

WATA has equally offered complimentary membership to ICTP.

“We could not be more pleased to have WATA join our alliance,” said ICTP Chairman Juergen T. Steinmetz, “The high level they hold themselves to in regards to sustainability, as well as their membership criteria, makes them an ideal partner association.”

HALEIWA, Hawaii, USA; BRUSSELS, Belgium; VICTORIA, Seychelles – The International Council of Tourism Partners (ICTP) announced that Tanzania National Parks (TANAPA) has joined the alliance as a destination member.Tanzania National Parks works to sustainably conserve and manage park resources and their aesthetic value, for the benefit of present and future generations of mankind, as well as to efficiently provide high-class tourism products and services. Its ultimate aim is to be the highest globally-rated institution in sustainable conservation and provision of exceptional tourism services.

The primary role of TANAPA is conservation. The 15 national parks, many of which form the core of a much larger protected ecosystem, have been set aside to preserve the country’s rich natural heritage, and to provide secure breeding grounds where its fauna and flora can thrive, safe from the conflicting interests of a growing human population. The existing park system protects a number of internationally-recognized bastions of biodiversity and World Heritage sites, thereby redressing the balance for those areas of the country affected by deforestation, agriculture, and urbanization.

The gazetting of Saadani and Kitulo National Parks in 2002 expanded this network to include coastal and montane habitats formerly accorded a lower level of protection.TANAPA is also currently acquiring further land to expand certain parks, and to raise the status of traditional migration corridors connecting protected areas. In spite of population pressures, Tanzania has dedicated more than 46,348.9 square kilometers to national parks. Including other reserves, conservation areas and marine parks, Tanzania has accorded some form of formal protection to more than one-third of its territory – a far higher proportion than most of the world's wealthier nations.

Tourism provides valuable revenue used to support the conservation work of the national parks, as well as wildlife research, and the education and livelihood of local communities. In addition, tourism helps to generate international awareness of conservation issues, while the physical presence of tourists can help deter illegal poaching activity, assisting the park rangers with their game management work.

Professor Geoffrey Lipman, president of ICTP said: "The engagement of TANAPA is another important milestone. Tanzania has a proud reputation for conservation and heritage. Serangeti is the home of one of the greatest animal migrations on the planet and Mount Kilimanjaro - Africa's highest mountain - is a global icon for adventure travel. Members like this add immensely to the collective knowledge and resource base of ICTP - we welcome Tanapa's commitment to work with us to promote quality green growth"

ICTP Chairman Juergen T. Steinmetz said: “We firmly believe in the work TANAPA is doing and the fact that this organization has resisted the temptation to cash in on the short-term gains of mass tourism. Instead, it is committed to low impact, sustainable visitation to protect the environment from irreversible damage while creating a first-class ecotourism destination.

This fits in perfectly with the mission of ICTP to promote quality green tourism growth.”

HALEIWA, Hawaii, USA; BRUSSELS, Belgium; VICTORIA, Seychelles – The International Council of Tourism Partners announced that the International Organization of Electronic Tourism Industry (IOETI) in Italy has joined the alliance as a partner association member.

IOETI is a non-profit organization established in Italy, which aims to serve all elements and parties involved in the E-tourism industry in the Middle East and developing countries. It is hoped that IOETI will open new channels of information and communication to all members. This will ensure that all members reach the highest level of professionalism. Its aim is to open the developing world’s tourism trade to the world of online travel distribution and marketing.

“In today’s world, a company without a web site is practically unheard of. Yet for all the work we do on computers and laptops, iPads and iPhones, we have moved along so rapidly in this computer age, that there are few of us that completely understands what needs to be done for a company web site, especially one that meets today’s demands. We are pleased that IOETI is joining our membership,” said ICTP Chairman Juergen T. Steinmetz.

Many businesses understand that they need to invest in a web site or update their web site, but often they are not sure where to start and/or what they need to be successful on the web.
IOETI can come in and help to determine what type of web site or web solution a company needs, and also help in choosing the right company for the job. In other words, IOETI can guide one through the entire web site establishment process to ensure that a company is getting exactly what it needs from the company it hires for the job, with a very accurate evaluation.

IOETI also will be a company’s advisory while it builds its E-marketing strategies until reaching the stage of implementation. IOETI offers strategic consultation services for commercial and non-profit organizations and also for local touristic attractions, travel and tourism companies, regional tourism organizations, hotels, international airlines, restaurants, bazaars, transportation, car rental companies, tour guides.
