HALEIWA, Hawaii, USA; BRUSSELS, Belgium; VICTORIA, Seychelles; BALI, Indonesia – The International Council of Tourism Partners (ICTP) announced that Jet Airways has joined the growing alliance as an associate member.

Jet Airways, based in Mumbai, India, commenced its operations in May 1993. It is an airline that has pioneered concepts like Through-Check-in, City Check-in, Web and Kiosk check-in, SMS check-in, automated tickets at travel agency locations, e-ticketing, JetMobile, and the unique five-tier frequent flier program JetPrivilege in India.

ICTP Chairman Juergen T. Steinmetz said: “We are proud to have Jet Airways as an associate member. As an Indian corporate body, Jet Airways recognizes its responsibility to society and the nation, and more important, it demonstrates that responsibility.”

In 1998, Jet Airways launched its Yellow Rose campaign. The campaign describes that people are like roses, and like the flower they require friendship, warmth, and caring. Jet Airways has striven not only to extend these qualities to its passengers, but also to the country in times of crises or calamities.

The airline has engaged in the organization of a blood donation camp and various relief efforts due to natural disasters, such as aid to Jammu and Kashmir in support of Save the Children, in the aftermath of the Southeast Asia Tsunami, as well as the Gujarat Earthquake. Jet Airways has engaged the services of the Shraddha Charitable Trust, a registered NGO which trains and provides post-school vocation to mentally challenged and autistic young wards.

Every year, Jet Airways, together with various NGOs, organizes one or two "Flights of Fantasy" for underprivileged children. Under this unique initiative, children belonging to underprivileged sections of society are initiated into the world of aviation through special dream flights. Jet Airways has conducted several such flights at Mumbai and Chennai.

Today the International Council of Tourism Partners (ICTP) had a very active and successful panel discussion at the 18th World Route Development Forum being held in Abu Dhabi. Routes and ICTP further strengthened their partnership for upcoming Routes events.

In front of a larger than expected audience, ICTP President Professor Geoffrey Lipman, together with top executives from Ethiad Airlines, the World Bank, and the Seychelles government, conducted an active panel discussion about airline connectivity, which was attended by top airline and tourism executives.

World Routes officially opened today by Abu Dhabi Airports Company’s (ADAC) CEO, James Bennett. The event, which takes place over 4 days, will attract 2,800 senior professionals who represent over 300 airlines and 750 airports as well as numerous governments, destinations, and tour operators.

There are more airline delegates registered this year than at any previous event, representing all leading airlines including Lufthansa, British Airways, Air France/KLM, Etihad, Emirates, United Airlines, LATAM, COPA, South African, Air China, China Eastern Airlines, and Qantas as well as airports from around the globe. The event will also see more senior executives in attendance than in previous years, with 40 airline CEOs and 250 airport CEOs and board members as well as 16 tourism ministers registered to attend. Carriers which have confirmed that their CEO will be in attendance in Abu Dhabi include Kenya Airways, Air Arabia, CSA-Czech Airlines, Etihad Airways, Vueling, and Air Seychelles.

On the first day of the event, the World Route Development Strategy Summit, which takes place alongside World Routes, was launched with a keynote speech by ADAC CEO, James E. Bennett. The summit provided a platform for industry leaders to discuss key on-going topics that impact this dynamic and ever-evolving industry. Key topics highlighted during the summit included: taxation, rising oil prices, aeropolitics, environmental factors, sustainable route development, economic development, and general regional perspectives on aviation and its potential for growth.

Along with the summit opening, Routes held a joint press conference with Abu Dhabi Airports Company to announce the launch of the event and to engage with the 180 accredited journalists on Route Development strategies and trends. In addition, the first day of the forum started with meetings held between airlines and airports to seek and plan for new routes.

David Stroud, Executive Vice President, Routes commented: “This year’s World Routes might well be the largest commercial aviation event ever held, and it is more than appropriate that it takes place in the Middle East, the fastest-growing aviation market in the world. The event demonstrates in an impressive way how dynamic the global aviation sector is, despite the challenging economic and regulatory environment.

“The format is unique, as it is the only event which brings together hundreds of airlines and airports from all corners of the world. Delegates meet for tightly-scheduled, face-to-face discussions over 3 days with the aim to discuss and agree on new air services. In total, around 16,000 meetings will take place in Abu Dhabi.”

HE Ali Majed Al Mansoori, Chairman of ADAC, said: “The Middle East region has registered a 17.3% growth in passenger traffic in the first 8 months of 2012, as per the traffic report released by IATA, becoming the fastest-growing region in the world. ADAC is extremely proud to host key aviation leaders from around the globe here in the heart of this dynamic region. This world-class event will provide a platform to map out plans for growth in the aviation industry, but most importantly will allow Abu Dhabi to showcase its world-class airports and aviation services and to work even closer with airlines in delivering new routes and destinations to Abu Dhabi airports.”

“The aviation sector is one of the 12 sectors that form the Emirate’s engines of economic, social and cultural growth, and diversification,” said Al Mansoori, “Our leaders’ recognition that this sector is essential for connecting the Emirate to the world, has been translated to significant investment in air transport, enabling Abu Dhabi International Airport to become one of the fastest-growing international airport hubs. This commitment has also allowed Abu Dhabi to establish itself as a global center for tourism, trade, and industry in the 16 years since Abu Dhabi last hosted the World Route Development Forum.”

This year’s event program has been extended to include full days on both Saturday, September 29, and Sunday, September 30, with delegates invited to “Experience Abu Dhabi;” attend the World Route Development Strategy Summit; and further enjoy the unique one-to-one networking, briefing, and meeting opportunities. Exclusive Route Exchange Airline Briefings by airlines such as Etihad, Air Canada, Southwest, Iberia, and Aeromexico will also allow airlines to brief airports directly on their requirements and various market opportunities.

This marks the first time the event has returned to a previous host city. Back in 1996, Abu Dhabi’s downtown Hilton Hotel was the setting for the first hosted World Routes event. Sixteen years later, delegates will be able to witness for themselves the immense changes that demonstrate how the city’s future as a world-class destination is taking shape.

Routes organizes world-renowned airline and airport networking events through its regional and global Route Development Forums. For more information on the program, please visit www.routesonline.com/events/150/the-18th-world-route-development-forum or visit www.adac.ae .

HALEIWA, Hawaii, USA; BRUSSELS, Belgium; VICTORIA, Seychelles; BALI, Indonesia - International Council of Tourism Partners (ICTP) President Prof. Geoffrey Lipman will be a keynote speaker at 20th Global Eco Asia-Pacific Tourism Conference in Cairns, Tropical North Queensland, Australia, on Monday, October 15, to Wednesday, October 17, 2012. He will be speaking about “Green Growth and Travelism... Eco-tourism and Apple Seeds.”

“Green Growth” is the new geopolitical paradigm to respond to the big social, economic, environmental, and climate challenges of today and the population-driven resource challenges of tomorrow. “Travelism” – the “Travel & Tourism” value chain consisting of supply, demand, and the broader destination-focused economy they create – can play a leading role in this transformation, because it delivers on job creation, trade, and development, as well as spreading the happiness of human interaction.

As a contribution to the Rio+20 Earth Summit, we asked nearly 50 government, industry, and civil society thought leaders for their views on the challenges and opportunities from the intersection of these evolving paradigms. The result is a clear demonstration of their vision and the potential of the sector to make a seriously powerful contribution. Ecotourism remains a vital beacon of good practice on this transformation journey.

The challenge now is to channel this “Green Growth” and “Travelism” thinking across the traditional silos of the sector in an age of “disjointed hyper-connectivity” and to make bottom up, joined up thinking as important as the trickle-down approach that dominates the media channels. The answer is “apple seeds” and the next generation.

Professor Geoffrey is Director and “chief disruption architect” of greenearth.travel, a global think tank network, promoting green growth and travelism (travel & tourism) and specializing in strategy, innovation, and funding. Lipman is currently Adjunct Professor at Victoria University Australia, Visiting Professor at Oxford Brookes University UK, and Senior Tourism Research Fellow at George Washington University US. He is a member of the World Economic Forum’s Global Agenda Council and an Associate of Cosmos China. He has written and lectured widely on tourism strategy, sustainability and airline liberalization. In 2012, he launched at the Rio+20 Earth Summit a new compendium of leadership ideas from nearly 50 of the best thinkers inside and outside the sector, “Green Growth & Travelism: Letters from Leaders.”

The 20th Global Eco Asia-Pacific Tourism Conference is an ICTP member.

HALEIWA, Hawaii, USA; BRUSSELS, Belgium; VICTORIA, Seychelles; BALI, Indonesia – The International Council of Tourism Partners (ICTP) announced that Solomon Airlines Limited has become an associate member.

“Solomon Airlines has gone through some of the most difficult times in its history. Despite these experiences, Solomon Airlines has continued to strive for development and change to ensure that the airline can achieve its corporate objectives and commitment to the people of the Solomon Islands and the traveling public at large,” said ICTP Chairman Juergen T. Steinmetz, “and this is just one reason why ICTP is pleased to welcome the airlines to its membership.”

Solomon Airlines has successfully implemented its strategy to be a progressive “state-owned enterprise” in the Solomon Islands. With the application of information and communication technology, Solomon Airlines is working vigorously to become an energy-friendly airline in the South Pacific – a commitment to protect the environment. In its endeavors in this regard, the airline has its intranet site and and electronic boards to facilitate communication within the company without the use of paper.

In 2011, Solomon Airlines formally began its green mission when the new head office constructed at Henderson. While the office is very modern, an outstanding feature is the application of new technology and promotion of clean energy using solar power as its major source of electricity, and therefore, reducing its use of electricity. The protection of the environment and promotion of clean energy, especially from business houses and airlines in particular that are well known for using fuel, is becoming increasingly demanding. It is an international challenge of which Solomon Airlines will take on board.

Solomon Airlines wishes to see itself known as a “Green Airline” for its clean environment, utilization of clean energy such as wind and solar power, proper use of water resources, and use of alternative fuels. Solomon Airlines will focus its activities on environmental issues, sustainable living, and alternative construction of its physical infrastructures.

Ongoing environmental issues such as climate change, water scarcity, and biodiversity can be successfully dealt with through mediums such as awareness campaigns in communities and work places. Solomon Airlines works closely with its partners by sharing its experiences and encouraging them to introduce sustainable business practices that focus on the protection of the environment.

HALEIWA, Hawaii, USA; BRUSSELS, Belgium; VICTORIA, Seychelles ; BALI, Indonesia– The International Council of Tourism Partners (ICTP) announced that the Philippine Department of Tourism has joined the alliance as a destination member.

Wherever you choose to go in the Philippines, it’s the Filipinos that will make your holiday unforgettable. Lonely Planet calls them, “among the most ebullient and easy-going people anywhere,” and Forbes.com ranked them the friendliest country in Asia.

After three centuries under Spanish rule followed by 50 years of American influence, the Philippines is an Asian country unlike any other. Through a thick layer of Spain and America, you can glimpse the Filipino soul trying to express its unique cultural identity through creativity.

The Filipinos’ love sosyalan (socializing), dancing and music. From masquerades to mud fests, pilgrim processions to pageant parties, their island-style parties are open to everyone. Naturally artistic, you’ll see their penchant for color and craftsmanship even outside museums and galleries. It can be seen in their handicraft, design, fashion. It can be loud like their jeepneys or as clean as their embroidery, as brash as their tribal tattoos or as delicate as Lang Dulay’s weaving.

The Philippines distinct cuisine came from the comfort food that reminds Filipinos of family, home, and simple joys. Its many-layered flavors are expressed differently from kitchen to kitchen. Take the national dish, adobo (pork stewed in garlic, soy sauce and vinegar). It has as many recipes as there are islands in the Philippines. With islands so diverse, the Philippine culture is a buffet of fun and festivity.

It is against this delightful backdrop that PATA Travel Mart will convene from September 25-28, 2012 in the city of Manila at the SMX Convention Center - the largest private venue in the Philippines and one of the flagship establishments of the country’s MICE industry.

ICTP Chairman Juergen T. Steinmetz said: “We welcome the Philippine Department of Tourism to the ICTP alliance, and we are pleased that PATA has chosen to return to the Philippines after 34 years since the very first Travel Mart was held here. It was in 1978 when over 300 delegates assembled in Manila to experience Asia Pacific’s first industry trade event. ICTP is looking forward to this return event in this vibrant country.”

HALEIWA, Hawaii, USA; BRUSSELS, Belgium; VICTORIA, Seychelles – The Bali Tourism Board has joined the International Council of Tourism Partners (ICTP) as a destination member.

Bali is known as a living legend, the island of inspiration. With something for everyone, it is an ideal vacation choice for family fun, honeymoon romance, youth tourism, adventure travel, and cultural and artistic explorations.

Bali is renowned for having maintained its traditional culture against the sweeping tides of the modern world. In many parts of the island, life goes on as it has for centuries, with rhythms of ritual, creativity, and culture still serving as a community compass. Here, the arts are woven into the everyday, making Bali a world center of music, dance, visual arts, and of course, shopping.

Bali also preserves another important tradition: the find art of relaxation. Whether one chooses to laze on a palm-fringed beach or sink into the serenity of one of the island’s spas, a Bali vacation is a sure cure for a stress-laden life.

Balinese Hindus are famous for their spectacular celebrations of life, which combine artistry and spirituality in unforgettable display of devotion. ICTP Chairman Juergen T. Steinmetz said: “ICTP is proud to have the Bali Tourism Board join as a destination member. Bali boasts a wealth of modern tourism facilities, from luxurious resort and spas to professional travel and transportation services, to high-quality, well-managed attractions.”
